Foundation dc.  Yarn over, insert hook in same place as last dc was worked and pull up a loop.  Yarn over and draw through 1 loop on hook.  (foundation chain just made).  Yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook twice to complete the dc.

Ch 13 to start.

1^st Row:  Dc in 5^th chain from hook and each chain to end.  Ch 5, turn

2^nd Row:  Dc in 4^th chain from hook and next chain.  Dc in next 4 dc.  (ch2, skip 2dc, dc in next dc)

                three times.  Work 3 foundation dc to increase by one block.

3^rd Row:  Ch 5, turn.  Dc in 4^th chain from hook and next chain.  Dc in next dc.  (ch 2, skip 2 sts,

              dc in next dc) twice.  2 dc in space, dc in next dc.  (ch 2, skip 2 sts, dc in next dc) twice.

              Work 3 foundation dc to increase by 1 block.  Ch 3, turn.

Follow graph to end, decreasing by 1 block at each end of last 2 rows.

Do not finish off

1^st Round:  Ch4, do not turn.  Sl st in side of first dc on row below, ch 4, sl st in side of first dc on next row below.

Working along side of book mark *ch 3, sl st in side of next dc.  Rpt from* until you get to next corner, then work ch 4 sl st, twice, as before.

Across end, work (ch3 skip 2 dc, sl st in next dc) 3 times.

(ch 4, sl st in side of 1^st dc on row below) twice.

Work other side and end to correspond.

2^nd Round:  In each of next 2 ch4 loops, work 3sc, 1dc, 3sc.

In next ch3 loop, work 5dc.  *in next ch3 loop work 1sc.  In next ch3 loop work 5dc.  Repeat from * to end.

In next 2 ch4 loops work 3sc, 1dc, 3sc.

In next 3 ch loop work 5dc

In next 3 ch loop work 1sc

In next 3 ch loop work 5dc.

Work around remaining side of book mark to correspond.

Attach thread at centre sc on end of bookmark.  Ch 60.  Sl st in 10^th ch from hook and each chain back to beginning.  Fasten off.

Wrap thread 30 times around 4 fingers.  Before you slip off your fingers, secure at top with another piece of thread (tricky).

Cut in half at unsecured end and loop the tassle through the 10 ch loop.  (The securing thread comes in handy here for getting it through the loop.  Trim ends of tassle.

Darn in all ends and attach bow.  (optional of course).
