Size 30 cotton and a 0.75mm hook. Optional for last round: Embroidery thread and fine hook. Special stitch instructions: sc decrease. Insert hook into stitch and pull up a loop. Insert hook into next st and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through all loops Ch20 to begin. 1st Row: Dc in 8th ch from hook, (ch2, skip 2ch, dc in next ch) 4 times. 2nd row: Ch5, turn, (dc in next dc, ch2) 4 times. Dc in 5th ch of turning chain. 3rd to 5th row: Rpt row 2 working last dc in 3rd of turning chain. now working in rounds.
Rnd 1: Do not turn. Ch1, 3sc in this space *sc in next dc, 2sc in next space, sc in next dc, ch2, skip space, sc in next dc, 2sc in next space, sc in space. Rpt from * once. (sc in next dc, 2sc in next space) 3 times. sc in next dc, 5sc in corner space (sc in next dc, 2sc in next space) 3 times sc in next dc, 2sc in corner space. sl st in 1st sc of round. Rnd 2: *ch7 (dtr, ch2, dtr) in 2ch space. Ch7, sl st in 3rd sc of 5 corner sc. Rpt from * once. Ch1 turn. 10sc in 7ch loop, sc in dtr, 3sc in 2ch loop, sc in dtr, 10sc in each of next 2 ch7 loops. Sc in dtr, 3sc in 2ch loop. Sc in dtr. 10 sc in 7ch loop, sl st in corner sc. Rnd 3: Working along straight edge, ch3, dc in each sc to corner sc. (dc, ch3, dc) in corner sc. Dc in each sc to next corner sc. 1dc in corner sc. Dc in next 10 sc around loop. Dc in next 5 sc. Dc in next 7 sc, hdc in next 2sc, sc decrease over next 2sc, hdc in next 2 sc, dc in next 7 sc. dc in next 5sc, dc in next 10 sc, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch3. .
Optional Round: Either turn and work a round of sc in each stitch, or as I did for the bookmark pictured, finish off and attach a finer thread in any dc. I used 1 strand of embroidery silk but quilting cotton would be ok too. Work 2sc in each stitch around omitting the sc decrease at top of heart.
Decorate with a ribbon or rose as desired, but try not to sew it on to the wrong side as I did. They are a real bugger to move once attached. Tassle: Attach thread in 3ch space at bottom of heart. Ch60. Sl st in 10th ch from hook and each chain back to beginning. Fasten off. Wrap thread 30 times around 4 fingers and secure at top with another piece of thread. Cut in half at unsecured end and loop the tassle through the 10 ch loop. Trim ends.
